Forum rules

* This subforum is simply for the uploading of new SPC sets. Updates should go in the "Updated Sets" subforum, and conversations should be kept to other subforums, unless they directly relate to a submission.

* You may upload full SPC sets in .rsn, .zip, .rar, or .7z format. Do not upload each SPC individually.

* New sets should ideally be fully timed, tagged, and put in order, either via a soundtrack, or in a logical in-game ordering. Submissions lacking this info will not necessarily be rejected, but may take longer to appear on the site. Sets without track titles, however, will be rejected on the spot.

* Do not upload anything that is not SPC-related, or it will be deleted. We are not handling MP3s, PSFs, USFs, GSFs, or any other format at this time.

Note: If a submission thread is locked, it means it has been accepted, prepped, and will appear on the site during the next update.

For the 72 or so people who requested this. (Can't believe nobody submitted this masterpiece yet!) The four new pieces from The Secret Missions are at the end; all the rest of its music was identical to the original game so I just put them both in one set.

These were all ripped from the sound test and tagged according to the titles in the PC version's midi files.

I showed this one to YK on IRC (not #snesmusic) a little over a week ago but I figured a more formal submission would be nice.

Enjoy :)

I've detected that the SPC set looks likes it's good to go... but it isn't. I'm KungFuFurby, and I usually do cleanups related to redumping tracks not at the first note.

I'll go get the redumps up and running. The tracks are dumped and identified (thanks! ^_^), but at least one of the tracks don't look like it's at the first note. Fanfare is the first one to get redumped.

There is an in-game sound test in both games... there's some differences (mainly samples), not to mention I believe extra tracks for The Secret Missions...

Ah, you're right, Fanfare is a little off. I went back to the sound test to listen to it and for some reason the crash cymbal at the beginning doesn't play every time when you start it from the sound test. No idea why I missed that, since I actually spent a lot of time making sure all of the tracks started properly (and I'm pretty sure the rest of them are all correct, but I can't guarantee anything :P)

As for The Secret Missions, I think I got all of what little new music there was. I might have overlooked one or two but as far as I can remember the only new music is at the opening cinematic and title screen which are both accounted for in the set I posted.

I didn't know there were any differences in samples between The Secret Missions and the regular game, unless you're talking about sound effects and not instrument samples. Do you have any examples?

I guess the sound test itself is at fault. It doesn't happen every time, thankfully... sometimes hitting play multiple times will work it out for you after it has already started... or just stopping and playing the same track again (Hint: Try playing a non-looping tune first before playing a looping tune. All channels should be free when you try again. Stopping mid-way through a looping tune typically sticks a note on silence, and thus can block out some of the notes at the start.). I found that out myself when using the in-game sound test for both games.

The only one I got that was different in The Secret Missions was the Rec Room, which uses a flute sample in The Secret Missions. Compare that to the original game, which used a more xylophone-like sample. I didn't compare the sound effects... then again, it probably wouldn't be necessary.

My final statistics:

I snatched 7 redumps total. They were:
Damage Assessment
Enemy Ace Killed
Escort Mission
Landing
Fanfare
Returning (Normal)
Unknown

I also redumped two of the four original Secret Missions opening tunes, and got the Secret Missions variation of the Rec Room. All others came up pretty much the same, except for the four opening tracks, which were unique. Actually, at least one track, Barracks, was actually missing from The Secret Missions.

I actually plan on fully tagging the SPC set. I've already got that well under way...

Interesting note: The unknown tune is found in bank/sound group number 4 in the original game, so I'm pretty sure it isn't associated with Arcade. And just like the original Fanfare, it isn't found in The Secret Missions.

And last, but not least, I'll grab a Title Screen screenshot.

Here's the SPC set just about ready to go. It now has a Title Screen screenshot, which the original was missing.

I actually mixed and matched both Wing Commander games together. I do this with the Japanese and American versions as well when they share a soundtrack, but they don't exactly match.

Thank you for providing the SPC set to this game! ^_^

File comment: Pretty much ready to go version of Wing Commander. I did nine redumps and one new track to complete the SPC set, plus Title Screen screenshot to send it well on its way to the official database. ^_^

No problem :) Thanks for redumping the things I missed.

The only thing I'd change about the set in its current state would be to put the intro and title tracks from Secret Missions back-to-back instead of having Fanfare in between them, since the two were meant to be heard that way in game and having the other track come between them is a bit jarring.

I presume you mean having the four Secret Missions intro tracks play together at the start of the tracklist before having Fanfare play?

In that case, request accepted.

File comment: Reordering request from Revenant. I put the four intro tracks from the Secret Missions together at the top of the tracklist, then have Fanfare play.
